to work for a large company and at 25 was able to realize the dream of
opening his own small workshop. “We are focused on the market and on the
needs of shooters”, Nicola Perazzi, grandson of Daniele and currently at
the helm of the company together with his father Mauro, tells me. “The
first prototypes made by my grandfather”, Nicola explains, “were born with
clay shooting in mind and he used to take them to several shooting ranges, to
test them and to let the more experienced shooters try them, in order to collect
opinions and impressions that were later used to improve the shotguns”. It could
be said that Perazzi, in a certain way, was one of the very first market-
oriented companies, a characteristic it has maintained over the years
and which still represents one of its main strengths today. Yes, because
every single Perazzi shotgun is made taking into account the needs of the
shooter, regardless of whether the shotgun was made for the best Olympic
athlete or for the most mediocre amateur. Even though Perazzi follows
very stringent construction criteria, there are no “standard” features:
everything can be modified, perfected and customized according to the
buyer’s needs. Precisely for this reason, each Perazzi over-and-under
is practically a unique piece: a one-of-a-kind custom-built shotgun. To
obtain these results, of course, modern CNC machines work side by side
with experienced gunsmiths, who still perform many of the most delicate
operations by hand, such as surfaces finishing and fitting the barrels to
the receiver. The barrels of each shotgun, for example, are tailored to fit
perfectly with the receiver and they are not interchangeable with those of
another shotgun.
After the success of the MX8 model, launched during the 1968 Olympic
Games in Mexico (hence the initials “MX”), Perazzi, in 2015, expanded its
catalog with a new shotgun: the High Tech, an evolution of the MX8 that
introduced some innovations that further improved the original model.
Using the High Tech as a base, the company has created a commemorative
model for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The shotgun is called High
Tech 2020, a project that required over 600 hours of design work by a
