seven-round capacity. It is held in place by a sturdy lever with a release device placed in the front part of the trigger
guard. The trigger guard is also made of lightweight alloy, but it is independent from the chassis and it’s anchored
to it using its own front screw and the action assembly screw.
The buttstock, as previously mentioned, is securely attached to the chassis using four screws and offers the
possibility of quickly adjusting the height of the cheek piece and the length/height of the butt-pad. All these
features were added to meet the needs of the most demanding PRS shooters, who will have the opportunity to
adjust the buttstock according to the shooting position that they will use.
The test
Despite not having tried the gun in this context, I still appreciated the adjustment speed of the buttstock, so much
so that in a few seconds I was able to set up the rifle for bench shooting using the Rome front bipod and a rear bag.
In this regard, I also strongly appreciated the flat buttstock base that is parallel to the forend, whose rounded edges
perfectly adhered to the rear rest used during our test. After having adjusted the buttstock and having gained some
confidence with the trigger, I started the test by engaging a target placed 100 meters (109 yd) away. To zero the
Nightforce competition 15-55x52mm scope, I used Sako Racehead 168 grain ammo. I shot some 5 round groups
and I was able to obtain extremely tight results. Moving up to 200 meters (218 yd), with the same cartridges it was
not difficult to achieve groups with 20 millimeters of dispersion, while with 175 grain Fiocchi Perfecta and 190 grain
Hinterberger match, half MOA was the norm.
In addition to the aforementioned factory ammo, all of which are equipped with a Sierra Matchking bullet, I
tried some reloads that I had already successfully used on my Sako TRG 22, respectively equipped with 155
gr Lapua Scenar bullet, 168 gr Hornady Match HPBT and Hornady ELD-Match 178 grain. The rifle preferred
Sierra bullets with an apical curvature and tangent profile to the secant one of the bullets used for the reloaded
ammunition. After several groups at 200 meters, I moved my attention and the Nightforce reticle to the target
placed at 400 meters (437 yd). At that distance,

between 100 (109 yd) and 400 meters (437 yd). During the tests, not the slightest problem of
feeding or trigger consistency emerged, which,
combined with the effectiveness of the muzzle
brake and the insensitivity of the barrel to rising
temperatures, allowed me to fire over 150 rounds
in one afternoon without undermining the
performances of the rifle. The extremely rigid
closed action, combined with the Benchmark
barrel and the clean trigger, have given life to
a performing and consistent rifle, which isn’t
afraid of long shooting sessions. In addition, the
inclusion of a PRS stock that is also perfectly suited
for long-range shooting allows the Venus V to
compete and excel in every sporting discipline.
